Of late I've been making music and sound with the Pure Data
software. It is, as they describe it, "a real-time graphical programming environment for audio and graphical processing. It was planned as a free, better and more stable Max/fts, which has also been developed by Miller Smith Puckette at IRCAM."
Looks and sounds similar to MAX, but this software is OpenSource (!!!) and runs on Windows, Linux, Mac OSX and IRIX
. It seems as if the CompSci community is hyped on PD and thus libraries of externals have been written so that PD patches can work with MAX and MAX patches can work with PD.
I'm having a blast making interesting computer sounds and solving ever-expanding patching problems.
